James 1:19-20 (NASB)
19 This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.

Matthew 5:22 (NASB)
22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.

Father, so often we believe that we have the right to be angry. Forgive us Lord, as a nation and as Your church for only giving lip service to Your Holy Spirit’s words, through Paul, that our struggle is not against flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:12) and cause us Father to be slow to speak and slow to anger. In the name of Your Son, who balanced this perfectly, amen.

James 1:17 (NASB)

17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

Matthew 7:11 (NASB)

11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!

Father, we are so grateful for Your word. If it tells us nothing else, it tells us that we can trust You as the God who gives us good and perfect gifts. Forgive us Father, as a nation and as Your church for not trusting You. Cause us to fall in love with Your word, all over again, to search it and seek examples of all that You have given to us. In the name of Your Son, the One who fulfilled the Law and the Old Testament, amen.

James 1:14 (NASB)
14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.

Matthew 5:29-30 (NASB)
29  If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30  If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell.

Thank You Lord for always giving us a way of escape, when we are tempted (1 Corinthians 10:13). Forgive us Father, as a nation and as Your church for desiring our own lusts, rather than Your righteousness. Cause us instead Lord, to live AS-IF we had gotten rid of those body parts that we stumble with. In the great Name of Your Son, the One who died that we might have an abundant life, WITHOUT sin, amen

James 1:13 (NASB)
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “ I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.

Matthew 6:13 (NASB)
13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’]

Lord, we are so glad that You are a good God. And we are grateful that while You may lead us into trials, while You allow, and often bring, difficulties into our life, we know that since You do not tempt us, these difficulties are NEVER for us to sin, but ALWAYS for us to grow in grace. Forgive us Father, as a nation and as Your church for letting difficulties be an excuse for sinning. Lord, cause us to know You so well that we would never  suspect You as leading us into a temptation. In the Name of Your Son, the One who died so that our sins are wiped out, amen.

James 1:12 (NASB)
12  Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Matthew 7:13-14 (NASB)
13 “ Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Oh Lord, as I lead congregation after congregation, I fear that there are many in the pews who believe they are saved, yet will be told by You, “I never knew you.” (Matthew 7:23) Father, forgive us as a nation and as Your church  for taking the broad way, leading to destruction, because it is easier than persevering under trials. Father, cause us to be a nation and Your church, that receives the crown of life because we stay on the course thru the narrow gate, to life. In the name of Your Son, who died that we might have life, amen.

James 1:9-11 (NASB)
9  But the brother of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position; 10 and the rich man is to glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away. 11 For the sun rises with a scorching wind and withers the grass; and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so too the rich man in the midst of his pursuits will fade away.

Matthew 6:19-21(NASB)
19 “ Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; 21 for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Lord, we have all heard Your Son’s words, “Where our heart is, there is our treasure.” Father, forgive us as a nation and as Your church for pursuing greed because we believe it is so important. Father, we recognize that people with much means are used by You to be great givers, we also realize that many time, whether we are rich or poor, we often put our treasure in things of the earth. Cause us Lord to lay up treasure in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy. In the Name of Your Son, who died that we might see heaven, amen.

James 1:5-8 (NASB)
5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, 8 being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Matthew 7:7-11 (NASB)
7 “ Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!

Oh Lord, thank You for Your word, and all of the examples of Your answered prayers, to Your servants. You are a good God who gives us good gifts. Forgive us Father, as a nation and as Your church, for not seeking wisdom from You, for not expecting You to give to us generously, and for being double-minded. Cause us Lord to no longer doubt, when we come to You, knowing that You do give good gifts to Your children. In the Name of Your Son, who knew He could ask You anything, and then He’d trust Your guidance and direction, amen.

James 1:4 (NASB)
4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Matthew 5:48 (NASB)
48 Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Lord, in the Sermon on the Mount, Christ made clear that we are to be perfect, even as You are perfect. Father, forgive us as a nation and as Your church for  being impatient while You are perfecting us. Cause us Lord to endure, which brings the perfect results You desire for us, so that we lack nothing. In the great name of Your Son, the One who endured all, amen.

James 5:19-20

Lord, thank You for James’ sensitivity to fact that we stray from the truth. Forgive us Father, as a nation and as Your church for all of the straying that we have done. We acknowledge Lord, that we are under judgment from You, both in our nation and in Your church. Cause us Lord, to love our brother enough that we help him turn from the errors of his way, saving his life from destruction, for truly, there is great rejoicing in heaven when one sinner repents (Luke 15:7,10). Lord, we pray in the name of Your Son, who died that we might have life, life abundantly (John 10:10b), amen.

James 5:13-18

Oh Lord, we have become a people of little faith. Your word says the prayer of faith heals, the prayers of the righteous are powerful, that the prayers of the fervent are effective. Father, forgive us as a nation and as Your church, for not realizing that Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, what he prayed, when it is Your will, we can pray too. Lord, strengthen our faith and cause us to bring glory to Your name, by confessing our shortcomings to one another. In the mighty Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, amen.
